Restoration
In one of the most beautiful stretches of the Marine Protected Area “Capo Colonna”, is located one of the most fascinating castle of Italy, thanks also to its particular location that sees the triumph of it on an islet connected with the mainland by a thin strip of land. The fortress was built in XV century, it never hosted the local nobility, but was used as shelters by soldiers engaged against invaders coming from the sea.
The Aragonese Fortress, almost entirely restored, is characterised by some rooms (a video hall, a photo hall and the “Sala Phrurion”) an ancient suburb with the remains of a small church and a chapel; the panoramic ramparts, the tower dating from XIII century is the highest point of the stronghold.
